Crane Operator Certification

This 2-day prep class is designed for experienced crane operators or those seeking Recertification to equip them with the knowledge needed for passing the NCCCO written exams. The training covers essential topics, including Core concepts and Load Charts. Even the most seasoned operators increase their chances of success by participating in this comprehensive Crane Operation Training. Sample quizzes will be administered during the class to enhance readiness for the Mobile Crane Certification and the NCCCO Certification exams.

It is recommended that new or inexperienced crane operators attend this four-day "Introduction to Crane Operation" prep class, specifically designed to teach candidates essential crane terminology, how to calculate load charts, and the fundamentals of crane operation. Those new to mobile crane operation will gain valuable foundational knowledge during the first two days of this class, which will help them keep pace with the faster tempo of the third and fourth days, where experienced operators and those seeking to recertify join the training. 

It's important to clarify that Certification and Qualification are two distinct achievements in mobile crane operation. While Mobile Crane Certification signifies a comprehensive knowledge level, Qualification represents practical ability. For cranes exceeding the regulatory threshold, obtaining Certification is a prerequisite for achieving Qualification. However, an exception exists for mobile crane operators previously Qualified before the introduction of the Certification requirement standard, in which case Certification serves as a technicality for continued operation. 

Participating in this class or obtaining NCCCO Certification does not, by itself, qualify a student to operate safely on a job site. The NCCCO Certification allows individuals to operate the specific type of crane for which they have been certified, whether in a training mode for new operators or in job site operator mode for experienced or qualified operators. Gaining experience as a crane operator requires many hours of seat time, and the information provided in this class aims to introduce participants to cranes and better prepare them for the NCCCO written exams.

Practical examinations and practice training opportunities are also available as part of the Crane Operation Training program. Operators seeking this training will collaborate with a qualified OSTS instructor to master crane control operation, navigate the course, catch loads effectively, and learn essential tips and techniques. To achieve Mobile Crane Certification, candidates must pass the written core examination and at least one specialty exam, along with the corresponding practical exam, to secure their NCCCO Certification for a five (5) year period.
